Meet Pat Fleming

pat on the phoneFrom an Army family.  A proud Arizonan for 38 years and a resident in Sierra Vista, Pat Fleming was born near her grandparent’s Missouri farm. Growing up as the daughter of a career Army Officer and an Army Civilian mother, Pat learned the importance of service to the nation and the strength that comes from of its shared values, diversity and rich history.  Her commitment to serve others comes from the selfless example set by her parents.

In 1969, Pat and her family moved to Sierra Vista where she began to make personal and professional ties in the community.  In 1981, she followed her parents’ footsteps and began working as a Department of the Army civilian at Fort Huachuca.  She graduated from the University of Phoenix in 1984 with a degree in Business Management.  She proved her ability to manage complex government resources during her career with the Army as a budget analyst and a manpower allocations analyst.  In August 2005, Pat retired with over 24 years of service to the Army.

Involved in Southeastern Arizona Communities.  During the 1970s and 1980s, Pat met the challenges of being a military wife, a mother, and later a single parent.  At times she worked three part-time jobs to provide for her two sons.  Pat’s involvement in community activities began in 1980, when her sons participated in Cub Scouts and sports.  Her volunteerism with organizations such as the Cochise County Search & Rescue Team, the Cochise County Victim Witness Program, Arizona Parents for Public Education (APPLE), the Southwest Association of Buffalo Soldiers, AARP, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees have made her a leader in many spheres.  Pat has also worked with the Cochise County Planning and Zoning Department as a member of the Board of Adjustments.

Active in local politics.  Since 2000, Pat’s been an integral part of numerous Democratic Party clubs, the Arizona Democratic Party, the Cochise County Democratic Party, and the Santa Cruz County Democratic Party.  She has held positions in these organizations from precinct committeeperson to chair and was a member of the 2004 Democratic National Convention Platform Committee.  Pat Fleming is a proven leader and one who is well respected by fellow Democrats.

Pat’s decades of experience as a budget and manpower analyst make her ready to ensure that Arizona balances its budgets.  She will focus on getting real results from government programs.  She is a fiscal conservative who will fund education and vital community programs without frivolous spendingPat is passionate about helping the most vulnerable members of our society such as children, the elderly, and people with serious illnesses.  She believes every child and college student deserves a world-class education.  She wants all senior citizens to have affordable prescription drugs.  And she will work to bring affordable housing and safety to every neighborhood.  And she will be a tireless advocate for our military installations and our veterans.

Pat’s boundless energy will make her a very productive leader in our state capitol.  She is committed to preserving the ranches, farms, and rural way of life that underpins such a big part of our cultural heritage.  She will also work to attract new businesses that bring good jobs to our communities.  But she believes that economic growth must go hand in hand with carefully considered land use in our communities.  Pat recognizes the problem of global warming.  She understands the necessity for Arizonans to protect the environment and reduce their dependence on fossil fuels by using solar energy and other alternative sources of power.   She wants to create thousands of “green” jobs by making southern Arizona a national leader in solar energy.

Pat is married to Robert “Bob” Fleming, and their family together includes 5 grown children and 12 grandchildren.
